▌Establishment of a Fund to Offer Scholarships to Present of Poor Students Entering The University Law Faculties and Law College The aim of the project is to establish a scholarship fund to provide financial assistance to the poorest of poor students who seek admission to the Colombo University Law Faculty, the Open University Law Faculty and the Law College. Of Sri Lanka 's population 85 % are villagers. Their occupation is agriculture. Only a small proportion of this population is engaged in state employment. The wage these employees earn is insufficient to maintain a living. Hence they fall into debt by borrowing money on monthly interest. They are eternally oppressed by debt and financial burdens. About 75 % of the students entering the law institutions are from these poor rural families. Some of them receive a meager amount from the Mahapola Scholarship Fund. Students entitled to receive this scholarship are selected on the recommendation of the Grama Sevaka (Government Officer in charge a village) of the accurate income of the student's parents of the particular village. This recommendation should accompany the approval of the District Secretary in whose jurisdiction the particular Grama Sevaka Division exists. The presentation of the scholarship will be made by a committee appointed by the Lions Club. The committee will compromise 7 members. Its President, Secretary and Treasurer will essentially be members. The names of the scholarship recipients will have to be approved by the Director Board of the Lions Club as well as by the members of the Lions Club. All relevant information about the scholarship recipients and the scholarship will be forwarded to the Lion District.
